Ricochet

Unruly cloudburst
pummels the esplanade,
tourist beach crowds
sprinting for cover.
Steadfast in the scurry,
our eyes fixed upon
each other—an
imaginary embrace,
strangers briefly
entangled in sensual
metaphors.

Rain drops carelessly
ricochet off sun-bleached
concrete.

You reappeared in my
deep sleep fortress,
an ethereal ex-stasis
illusion empowered to
convey a veiled message
I could not decipher.
You—drifting away as I
tried to speak, my words
having no form.

I relinquish my bed for
a fresh ground espresso,
staring out the bay
window at a struggling
sunrise.

Rain drops carelessly
ricochet off sun-bleached
concrete.

“The consciousness of a human being is a completed whole, but also an indispensable and inseparable element of the unified consciousness of the human species. Human consciousness enables the eternal communion with all knowledge present in creation.”
